Last updated: 11th May 2004

When playing in a Bunkers Club Competition all rules of the local host Golf course will be adhered to, unless they oppose the rules as set out by the Bunkers Club below (they will usually be found on the reverse of the Scorecard):

1. During Bunkers Club competitions, you must abide by the Rules of Golf as set by R & A rules limited.

2. If you wish to play a provisional ball you must declare it as a provisional ball.

3. From the tee: If a ball is thought to have gone in the trees and might be lost, a provisional ball MUST be played. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a two (2) shot penalty, referred to as stroke and distance.

4. Lost ball - If a ball is believed to be lost, then from the point that you played that shot you are asked to play a provisional. If a provisional ball was not played and you approach where you believed your ball to be, and have looked for up to a limit of five minutes you must take a drop from an agreed position where you believe the ball to have been, this will be meet with a TWO shot penalty! One for stroke and one for distance.

5. If you believe that your ball has gone out of bounds, or you are uncertain about where your ball went, you must play a provisional ball and declare it as in (2).

6. Finding a water hazard: If a water hazard is encountered, the ball may be dropped with one (1) shot penalty in line with it’s point of entry into the hazard and the Flag Stick with no limit as to how far back. Lateral Water Hazard (Red Stake) Drop, no nearer the hole, with a one (1) shot penalty, within two (2) club lengths from the stake.

7. A ball may be searched for a maximum of five (5) minutes. After the allotted period of time the provisional ball (if the first was lost off the tee) or a drop ball must be played.

8. No show for an event that a player has already committed to will be penalised the green fee charged by the club.

9. A two (2) shot penalty will be incurred if a player is late for the first tee-off in a competition.

10. If playing from the fairway or rough and you hit your ball out of bounds, or close to the boundary but are not sure whether in bounds or not you must declare and play a provisional ball otherwise you will be penalised stroke and distance. That is you will be penalised a shot for stroke and a shot for the distance.

11. Every player must play the complete hole until the end, including the last putt. No “give me’s” are allowed in any Bunkers stroke play tournaments. Only in match play events, opponent may concede a stroke.

12. Marking cards: An incorrectly marked card will automatically disqualify the marker from the competition being played. You must mark someone else’s card NOT your own.

13. If a ball is lost a maximum of 5 minutes can be spent looking for your ball. After that period you must play your provisional ball.

14. If a player has an official club handicap and a Bunkers Club handicap, then they must play off the lower of the two.

15. Slow play - If a group is holding up the Bunkers Club group behind then they are asked to invite the group behind to play through. The group behind should indicate to the group in front a willingness to play through.

16. Any objections or complaints about the event in which you partake should be raised with a member of the committee on the day of the event. The committee will then investigate and collectively decide on what action, if any, needs to be taken. Any other complaint may be made by email to the committee.

17. The Bunkers Club disciplinary procedure is as below.
Stage 1 Verbal formal warning
Stage 2 Written formal warning
Stage 3 Barred from participating in tournaments till further notice.

The committee reserves the right to enter disciplinary action at any stage depending on the seriousness of the breach of the rules. The rules the Bunkers Club abides by are in accordance with the rules of golf.
